Mercedes-Benz’s latest C-Class is a major leap in performance, dynamics and styling over the outgoing generation so it’s not surprising that execs are planning to add more models to the range. One of these is a new convertible that Mercedes has teased ahead of a likely debut at next month’s 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
Don’t expect any major surprises. The car, which will be called a C-Class Cabriolet, will closely resemble the latest C-Class Coupe but instead of sporting a fixed roof will come with an automated folding soft-top. We’ve already spied some barely disguised prototypes, and from what we’ve seen the car is shaping up to be a very handsome package.
As we saw with the C-Class Coupe, the C-Class Cabrio will offer multiple powertrain options.
In the United States, expect the car to come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in base C300 trim. Above this should sit a Mercedes-AMG C43 powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 and at the top of the range should be the Mercedes-AMG C63 with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8.
Key rivals for the C-Class Cabrio will be the Audi A5 Cabrio, BMW 4-Series Convertible, Infiniti Q60 Convertible, and an expected drop-top Cadillac ATS.
