G550 gets more power and style, same top speed Brabus would like you to know that if you can't go full AMG-Wagen, it can help out with more power and panache for your pedestrian Mercedes G550 SUV. The company is calling it the Brabus B40 and says that Merc’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 is an “outstanding basis for a powerful Brabus variant.” Brabus’ plug-and-play power unit/ECU brings newly calibrated mapping for injection and ignition while also increasing boost pressure. Totaled up, that makes the G good for 493 hp, an increase of 78 hp and 523 lb-ft of torque, which is an increase of 74 lb-ft. The sprint to 62 mph shortens to 5.7 seconds; top speed is still limited to 137 mph. Buyers also get a three-year warranty. Additionally, Brabus will add a red-branded engine cover, a sport exhaust with butterfly valves and a quiet “coming home” mode, as well as a special front lighting concept with six LEDs on each side. Brabus body modification includes a naked carbon fiber hood scoop, a radiator grille logo and underbody lights on the running boards. Inside, Brabus installs upgraded leather and Alcantara in almost any color, as well as aluminum components for the pedals, door lock pins and scuff plates. We’ve emailed Brabus for the price of this upgrade; we’ll update when the company gets back to us.
