ATLANTA -- Mercedes-Benz USA today named Adam Chamberlain its vice president of sales, effective April 1.

Chamberlain, 42, replaces Dietmar Exler, who was promoted to CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA in December following the resignation of former CEO Steve Cannon.

In his new role, Chamberlain is responsible for sales, volume planning and distribution operations in the U.S. He will report directly to Exler. Chamberlain, who is British, previously was sales director of passenger cars for Mercedes-Benz UK.

“Adam’s broad expertise working with seven brands in three countries, his business acumen and proven retail track record make him a strong asset and brings a fresh perspective to the company moving forward,” Exler said in a statement.

Chamberlain joined Mercedes-Benz in 2013 as United Kingdom sales chief. Mercedes touted his strong relationship with the dealer network in the U.K., plus the significant growth in retail new and pre-owned car sales during his tenure. Chamberlain also led a team tasked with improving the customer retail experience.

He started in the industry with Volkswagen AG in 1994. He held various management positions in Volkswagen’s retail and sales units in the U.K. through 2009. He was then promoted to head of sales and marketing for Volkswagen Ireland and three years after that became managing director for Seat in Ireland.
